A: Where comfortable exercise clothing and footwear. Some training will take place outdoors, so bring a hat if sunny.
Q: I’ve never done lion dance or martial arts before, can I train?
A: Absolutely! All CMS members have started with little to no experience before. Dedication to training builds experience and lets members grow individually.
Q: What is a ‘trial’ and ‘intake’?
A: Our intake/trial classes are a way to introduce lion dancing to new members, but also for the CMS Lion Dance team to assess new members for suitability for ongoing training and membership. CMS Lion Dance is a volunteer run organisation, as such, resources are limited and we can only take in a few members each year.
CMS membership is open to those who are disciplined, respectful, reliable, show a true passion for the art and team players. Members who continue training are expected to be available to train most Sundays throughout the year, and help with performances & duties required by the team.
The CMS team leaders & trainers will have an open and respectful chat with all new members/parents to discuss their suitability.
Q: I am/my child is shy, would this be suitable?
A: Yes! Many members have started as shy & introverted individuals, and grown to be confident team players and performers over time.
Q: Are there any fees involved?
A: Our classes and training are free. CMS is a community based, volunteer run team.
If accepted for ongoing training, members are expected to assist in the successfully running of the club, which may involved attending performances and shows, cleaning, and general duties.
